Nutrition During Pregnancy

                                      Nutrition During Pregnancy

During your pregnancy, what you eat becomes even more important.  It affects your health, how you feel, and the most important thing, your baby.  Babies need enough protein, carbs, and fats to develop their organs correctly.  This is not a time to diet or starve yourself.  To get the baby the nutrients it needs, you must eat a well balanced, nutritious meal.  You need to stick to the five food groups- grains, fruits, vegetables, protein foods, and dairy.  Oils and fats give you important nutrients, too, even though they’re not in the food groups.

When you’re pregnant, the fats you eat provide energy and help build many fetal organs and the placenta.  Most of the fats and oils in your diet should come from plant sources.  You should also Limit the solid fats that you eat, such as those from animal sources.  Solid fats can also be found in processed foods.

Protein is crucial for a baby’s growth.  Calcium is an important for healthy bones for the mother and the baby (along with vitamin D.) it  helps your circulatory, muscular and nervous systems run normally.  foliate acid is a B vitamin that is necessary to prevent serious abnormalities of the brain and spinal cord, and decreases the risk of preterm labor.  iron helps build and renew hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying compound in blood.

While you are pregnant avoid eating soft cheeses from unpasteurized milk because it could contain E coli,You should also not eat raw cookie dough are cake batter because it could contain salmonella. One more thing you should not eat is raw fish(sushi), it could contain parasites or bacteria.

Poem of the Day: Oh Me! O Life! By: Walt Whitman

O Me! O Life!

BY WALT WHITMAN

Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,

Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish,

Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)

Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d,

Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,

Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,

The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

                                      Answer.

That you are here—that life exists and identity,

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

This is a lyrical poem, with great vocabulary. I truly did not really understand at first, but then when we discussed it as a class I made more connection with it. It it trying to show we are here for a purpose.

Frindle

“Nick Allen had plenty of ideas, and he knew what to do with them.”  My book review is over the fiction book Frindle, by Andrew Clements.  Lets just say Nick isn’t the worst, but he sure is not the  greatest student in the fifth grade class.

The main characters in Frindle are Nick Allen, Mrs.Granger, and the rest of the fifth grade class.  Nick Allen, a fifth grade student  gets the rest of the fifth grade, and entire country to say the word “frindle” instead of the word pen.  Read this book to find out how the meanest English teacher, Mrs.Granger, in the school reacts!

My favorite part was about ten years later when Nick writes a letter to the mean, old teacher he had in fifth grade, Mrs.Granger.  That is all I can say, or I would give away the ending!

I would recommend this book to boys or girls.  If you were ten to twelve years old, I think you would enjoy it.  I would rate this book an eight out of ten.  If you decide to read this book, I hope you enjoy it!

The Thing I Love

My favorite sense is sight because I can the see world around me. I can pick out my own clothes knowing what it has on it. Sight makes my life better because I can see things that are beautiful and pretty. I am happy I have sight because I think it would be scary not to have my sight. You would hear noises and you would not know where they were coming from. That is why I am grateful for my sight.

How my life would be if my sight was taken away. I would be so nervous if I didn’t have it. I could not see anything that was going on around me. I would also be very sad because I would not be able to see the beautiful things in the world. I could not see my friends, family,or my pets. That is why I love my sight.
