Poem of the Day: Oh Me! O Life! By: Walt Whitman

O Me! O Life!

BY WALT WHITMAN

Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,

Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish,

Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)

Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d,

Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,

Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,

The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?

                                      Answer.

That you are here—that life exists and identity,

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

This is a lyrical poem, with great vocabulary. I truly did not really understand at first, but then when we discussed it as a class I made more connection with it. It it trying to show we are here for a purpose.

Frindle

“Nick Allen had plenty of ideas, and he knew what to do with them.”  My book review is over the fiction book Frindle, by Andrew Clements.  Lets just say Nick isn’t the worst, but he sure is not the  greatest student in the fifth grade class.

The main characters in Frindle are Nick Allen, Mrs.Granger, and the rest of the fifth grade class.  Nick Allen, a fifth grade student  gets the rest of the fifth grade, and entire country to say the word “frindle” instead of the word pen.  Read this book to find out how the meanest English teacher, Mrs.Granger, in the school reacts!

My favorite part was about ten years later when Nick writes a letter to the mean, old teacher he had in fifth grade, Mrs.Granger.  That is all I can say, or I would give away the ending!

I would recommend this book to boys or girls.  If you were ten to twelve years old, I think you would enjoy it.  I would rate this book an eight out of ten.  If you decide to read this book, I hope you enjoy it!

The Thing I Love

My favorite sense is sight because I can the see world around me. I can pick out my own clothes knowing what it has on it. Sight makes my life better because I can see things that are beautiful and pretty. I am happy I have sight because I think it would be scary not to have my sight. You would hear noises and you would not know where they were coming from. That is why I am grateful for my sight.

How my life would be if my sight was taken away. I would be so nervous if I didn’t have it. I could not see anything that was going on around me. I would also be very sad because I would not be able to see the beautiful things in the world. I could not see my friends, family,or my pets. That is why I love my sight.

My Favorite Sport

Watching,

running,
then BOOM!

Listening to the ball,
hit the floor,
it feels,
amazing.

I feel so good,
when I get my serve over,
I get so pumped.

When the ball hits the ground,
on the other side,
a chill of excitement rolls down my back.

When I feel the energy flow,
I feel so great,
that is why,
I love Volleyball!

The Best Present Ever

It was Christmas day and I was opening my presents.I picked one up and tore the rapping paper off and heard what sounded like a small box inside. My sister-in-law Lara started tickling me and said “what did you get, what did you get!!!!”.I said “I don’t know”,and ripped the box open.I looked inside with excitement and the little box had a picture of an iPhone 4.I was so excited.I had a big smile on my face.I showed Lara the little box and then she screamed with excitement.”Ahhhhhhhhh”she said. She looked at me and smiled. She said she was jealous of me and said I would have a lot of fun with my new phone.I started playing on it as soon as I could. Then I downloaded a couple apps and started taking a lot of pictures. This was my favorite present and most memorable moment of the holidays.

Meow!Meow!

One day me and my mom where just lounging around the house and our friends invited us to go to Shreveport with them.We said yes, packed our bags and got ready.First we went to Sonic and got me some popcorn chicken then they cam and got us. Me and my friends Kylie and Trent ate the chicken on the way there.when we got there it was time for dinner so we went to the Horseshoe and ate chicken and fried rice. They gave us a lot! Then we ate ice cream with gummy bears. So we went to our hotel rented Hop stayed up a little bit and went to bed. The next morning we went to the Boardwalk ate then went shopping. Later my brother Jake called and said “Momma Kitty had two kittens!”(Momma Kitty is the cat’s name.)So we shopped a little longer and went home. Then we saw that she had four kittens! I was so excited! They are so adorable! Now they are a little bit older and there names are……Smokey,Bandit,Dexter, and Lexi. I have so much fun with them. That was one of my most memorable moments of my summer!

A Good Day

Baby kittens,
There you are,
I was so excited,
To see you,
I wanted you,
To sleep in my room,
Then my mom,
Let you,
A couple weeks later,
You had to sleep,
In the garage,
But I still,
Come and visit,

And play with you.
